Any day now, the verdict in the Mehserle murder trial will be announced with the world watching.
We must organize a response to the verdict - whatever happens - that sees the murder of Oscar Grant within the context of the growing police violence against the African community that requires our participation in solidarity with growing African liberation movement as allies or in building self-determination for African people through organization.
The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement and the Uhuru Solidarity Movement are calling on individuals and organizations to come together to organize a disciplined and militant response to the verdict to the trial for the murder of Oscar Grant. All indicators point to an acquittal or a lesser charge than first degree murder. The police are and have always been the first line of defense for the white ruling class against the oppressed African community. The police departments of the United States were originally the slave owners and slave catchers whose role was to brutalize and terrorize the African and Mexican communities.
Their role is no different today from Detroit to Oakland!
The Oakland Police Department is organizing their response. All justice and freedom-loving people must come together to organize our response. We must win the minds of the people of Oakland and beyond to stand up for justice.
We must act, not as individuals, but as people united against the state violence and repression of the African community. We must build a strong movement in solidarity with self-determination and for victory for African people here and abroad.
With your commitment, we can defeat the Oakland gang injunction and hasten the crisis of a system that provides nothing but murder and oppression for peoples on the planet and participate in a world where African and oppressed have control over their own lives, and we are no longer living at the expense of others.
