Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation for a screening of “Moments with Fidel” (Cuba, 2004, Spanish with English subtitles, 55 minutes) and discussion about Cuba and its revolution.

Fidel Castro led Cuba for over five decades, since revolutionary forces toppled the pro-imperialist regime of dictator Batista in 1959. Fidel has had to survive over 600 assassination attempts.

This original documentary from the Cuban Film Archive and director Rebeca Chávez, uses rarely seen, archival footage and audio from 1959 to the present, to create a collage of pivotal moments in the life of Fidel Castro. The film includes his redefinition of Cuba’s role facing scarcity in the 1990s after the overthrow of the Soviet Union. Hear Fidel addressing millions in Havana regarding struggles of the Cuban people for land reforms, increased sugarcane production and threats of imperialist intervention.

Fidel Castro dirigió a Cuba por más de cinco décadas, desde que las fuerzas revolucionarias tumbaron al régimen imperialista del dictador Batista en 1959. Fidel ha tenido que sobrevivir más de 600 atentados de asesinato.

Este documental original del Archivo Cubano de Cine y directora Rebeca Chávez, utiliza metraje de archivo y pocas veces visto, y audio desde 1959 hasta el presente, para crear un montaje de momentos críticos en la vida de Fidel Castro. La película incluye su redefinición del papel en Cuba enfrentándose con escasez en los años 90 después del derrocamiento de la Unión Soviética. Escuche a Fidel dirigirse a millones en Habana tratando las luchas del pueblo cubano para las reformas agrarias, incrementando la producción del caño de azúcar, y las amenazas de intervenciones imperialistas.
