No More Borders! No Racist Scapegoating! Amnesty Now!
Arizona's anti-immigrant law, SB-1070, has polarized the nation. As the economic situation worsens for the majority of working people, the Right has found a way to shift the blame for the crisis onto immigrants. SB-1070 is racist scapegoating, written into law.
So far, the Obama administration has done nothing other than to verbally criticize the bill. Far more than words are needed, and every day that the administration fails to act against SB-1070 is one more day in which they are complicit in this attack on immigrants and workers. SB-1070 is set to go into effect in late July, and we can't just sit and wait for Obama and the White House to decide to do the right thing.
Importantly, there are thousands people all around the country who are already taking action against this attack. The recent May Day demonstrations brought out hundreds of thousands of people to organize against the new law, and for immigrants' rights. The AFL-CIO has released a statement critical of SB-1070, and the President's lack of action regarding it. San Francisco, Los Angeles and other cities have taken measures to enact a boycott against Arizona; and sports stars and recording artists, such as Charles Barkley and Chuck D, have spoken out against the law as well.
May 29th will be a national day of demonstration against this racist law - a mass demonstration is being organized in Phoenix, and there will be a rally in San Francisco as well (details below).
Now is the time to turn up the heat on SB-1070, Governor Jan Brewer and the Arizona legislature, and the federal government. Nullify SB-1070 in Arizona! Full and immediate amnesty for all the undocumented in all 50 states!
Join the International Socialist Organization, and a panel featuring immigrants rights and labor activists for a discussion on what we can do right now to stop this racist attack, and to build a movement that can win justice and equality for all.
