What song makes you smile? At the StoryCorps recording booth currently in residence at the Museum, this question tends to elicit some of the most joyful responses from loved ones. Music's deep connection to memory extends past nostalgia and to the bio-neurological. From singing to drum circles to iPod therapy, music also plays an incredibly important role in engaging people with memory loss.
Perri Chinalai, Senior Coordinator of the StoryCorps Memory Loss Initiative, will moderate a discussion between Nicholas Sager, Recreation Specialist at On Lok Lifeways, and Judith-Kate Friedman, Founding Director of Songwriting Works. The guests will speak on their experiences in the fields of music therapy and memory loss and will describe examples of innovative new programs, provide ideas to incorporate music into daily life as caregivers and professionals, and speak to the power of song throughout one's life.
Presented in conjunction with On Lok Lifeways.
INFORMATION: info [at] thecjm.org or call 415.655.7800.
ADMISSION: FREE. Museum admission is separate. Admission is $5 after 5 PM.
