Filmmaker Justin Dillon in Person
Sunday, May 16, 6:30
Bay Area filmmaker and musician Justin Dillon will present and discuss Call+Response, his eye-opening feature documentary that enlists performing artists and popular music to reveal the world's 27-million dirtiest secrets: that there are more slaves today than at any time in history. From the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of India, as well as worldwide human trafficking that permeates even the U.S., first-hand accounts of this 21st century slave industry are provided by such activists and luminaries as Cornel West, Madeleine Albright, Julia Ormond, Ashley Judd, Daryl Hannah and Nicholas Kristof. The issues and problems they discuss also inspire stirring musical performances by Moby, Natasha Bedingfield, Cold War Kids, Matisyahu, Imogen Heap, Talib Kwell, Five For Fighting, Switchfoot and Dillon with his band Tremolo. With a passion for justice and the force of rock ‘n' roll, Call+Response calls out for nothing less than a modern abolitionist movement. Producer/Director: Justin Dillon. (US 2009) Film 86 minutes plus discussion.
