Building a Beautiful Carbon Neutral Home
Speaker: Drew Maran and William Duff
Yes, it is possible to build a carbon-neutral, green, beautiful home! Through engaging case studies from both an architectural and construction perspective, Drew and William will show us how they have achieved both beauty and function, while maintaining a strong focus on the environment. Beginning with a sophisticated sustainable design and by using reclaimed lumber for structural and architectural elements, renewable energy generated on site, a living roof, and other techniques, green homes can achieve a high level of design and be green, with or without a Green Point or LEED rating.
Drew Maran is the founder and president of Drew Maran Construction, Inc. (http://drewmaran.com/), a Palo Alto based construction company dedicated to green building practices. Founded in 1985, DMC is recognized as a leading builder of Green custom homes in California. His commitment to environmentalism has led to making Green Building central to the company's mission. Drew personally oversees the sustainability program on each project, promoting Green solutions along with sound project management.
William Duff is the founding principal of William Duff Architects, Inc. (http://www.wdarch.com/), an award winning San Francisco architecture firm specializing in residential, retail and commercial projects. His work is known for its elegant simplicity both in plan and detail, and for a sophisticated use of materials, light and space to create modern, sustainable architecture. An expert in sustainable design William is a LEED certified professional and has designed to a carbon metric since 2005.
