Freeway-turned-food-forest Hayes Valley Farm will debut its Farm Film Night series with a screening of the acclaimed documentary DIRT! The Movie. This outdoor event will give city folks the opportunity to learn about soil ecology and enjoy the farm under the stars. The screening will begin at sundown with short films by Bay Area filmmakers from How-to Homestead, accompanied by live music by the Sk8 Sisters. Drinks and homemade popcorn will be available to purchase, and there will also be a fruit tree giveaway. Hayes Valley Farm plans to host film nights throughout the summer and fall, with future dates to be announced. The Farm Film Night series will showcase new and fresh films and educate urban dwellers on issues of food and eco-sustainability. The first film night will benefit the farm’s Wheelbarrow Fund, to raise money for farm tools.
