Marking the moment:
On May 24, people from near and far will gather at 11:30 am to mark the moment of the bomb explosion (just before noon) at the site in Oakland that it blasted through Judi's car, nearly killing her and forever changing the Earth First! movement.  There will be music, and a speak-out. The site is in front of Oakland High School, near E.33rd on Park Blvd.  Info at 510-548-3113, http://www.judibari.org and Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters Facebook page.

We are raising funds to cover expenses of this commemoration, including reprinting Judi’s essays, hall rental and travel funds for out of town speakers so that the events can be free and accessible to all.   Make tax-deductible donations by going to http://www.HeadwatersPreserve.org  and clicking on the "donate" button at the top (enter "Judi Bari" in the notes box on the donation form.) or send a check made out to Earth First! to P.O. Box 210, Canyon, CA 94516 ("Judi Bari" in the memo line.)  All funds go directly to support the event.
Cosponsors include Earth First!, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and the Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters (BACH).

The car bombing had nothing to do with Earth First!, which Judi Bari explained to me when I visited her in the hospital. Because she and Darryl sang the "Will the Fetus Be Aborted" song at the abortion clinic, in opposition to a Pro Life group which was there, it enraged the Pro Lifers, resulting in the placement of a car bomb in Judi's Subaru. Judi asked me not to tell this fact while she was still alive, because she did not want to take away focus from the Headwaters campaign. Later, after she left her body, I published a letter in the Anderson Valley Advertiser informing the public of the truth. Therefore, this event at La Pena ought to be a Pro Choice sponsored event! The car bombing had nothing whatsoever to do with Earth First!
