Interactive panels, discussion forums, and community lunch!
This is a town hall for community members, educators, and organizers to gather and discuss community-based solutions to violence in Oakland, and find alternatives to the proposed gang injunction.
Panels will focus on three themes: the problem of violence in Oakland and its root causes such as poverty, unemployment, displacement, and lack of funding for education; an explanation of gang injunctions and their negative effects on communities; and community-based solutions.
Hundreds of community members have signed petitions and rallied against the injunctions, because we know that more policing has not and will not make our communities safer. Since the city is not providing solutions to violence and poverty, we must be the solution.
No to racial profiling.
