YOU ARE INVITED TO COME TO OUR FREE FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT, KIDS CREEK FEST

May 8th, 10:30 am to 3 pm at Fernandez Park, Pinole (behind the
businesses at Tennent and San Pablo Avenues. (use 601 Tennent to
google or mapquest directions)

This environmental fair was the first of it's kind to entertain,
educate and inform young children and their families about the
importance of caring for the earth, it's resources, it's water, and
it's beloved creatures. It's a parents dream event - there is NOTHING
to buy, everything is free - food, crafts, activities, and even a free
lunch for the first 200 people.

Here is just a brief description of what you will see and do:

Doug Nolan, eco-entertainer, master juggler and magician, and all
around nice guy

Native American Storyteller Jessie Riddle and her tales from long ago;

A HUGE plastic "beast" - 20+ feet tall - (collected and assembled by a
local preschool) and learn how to to "tame the plastic beast"

Inflatable jumpers for the little ones to jump in (efficiently burning
some of their own energy)

Recycled crafts with MOCHA (Museum of Children's Art) http://www.mocha.org

Live native bugs with the Insect Discovery Lab from Savenature.org
(beetles, millipedes, tarantulas, walking sticks, whip scorpions and
more!

What is a Watershed? A look at a model and what we can learn from it

Face painting

Potter's wheel and clay (with lovely Lauren, a real, live artist)

Fresh strawberries to sample and a rainbow of fresh produce from the
Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association

Juggling workshop (learn the basics from the pros)

Worm composting bins (make little wiggler "starter kits" that you can take home)

Corn husk doll making

U-color usable art (t-shirts and bags - limited quantities - be sure
to come early)

Books on the go in our story reading booth - and get a yummy cookie
for listening in

Creek clean-up (adjacent to the park - how convenient!)

Tours of the star of our show, the Creek!

Alternative energy vehicles: U.C. Berkeley's "Gold Rush" solar car; a
totally cool 2009 electric Tesla Roadster and Dr. Joe and his
ever-so-enviro solar/electric pick-up truck

Pine cone bird feeders - make and take home your own

Fishing game

Formerly live native animals and making plaster of Paris castings of
animal prints (like bobcats, raccoons, and the like)

Toy car wash (and u-color door hangers on why that's not so hot for the creek)

The Pinole Fire and Police Departments (wow, cool!!)

PLUS...

free lawn games, demonstrations, crafts and activities. New booths
added daily. (In fact, if you or your organization can volunteer to
staff a booth, we can have even MORE!)

See you at Kids Creek Fest!!
