U.S. imperialism dominates nuclear arms

Earlier this month, President Obama concluded an international summit on nuclear arms in Washington, D.C. The final statement from the forty-seven-nation summit agreed to block certain nations from obtaining the technology for advanced nuclear power and weapons.

The U.S. continues to have countries like Iran and North Korea in its sights for nuclear disarmament while looking the other way when allies, such as Israel, acquire them. Meanwhile the U.S. retains the right to attack with nuclear weapons, is still the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon against another nation, and has the biggest stockpile of the most advanced nuclear weaponry.

Instead of calling for a “nuclear free world”, we should intensify our call to disarm the most dangerous nuclear power that exists—the Pentagon.

Anniversary of Rodney King Verdict

April 29 marks 18 years since the 1992 Los Angeles uprising sparked by an outrageous jury verdict that found four white police officers “not guilty” of viciously beating a Black man, Rodney King.

After the verdict, rebellion overtook much of South Los Angeles—the heart of the Black and Latino communities. Tens of thousands were in the streets, showing once again that, under the racist capitalist system, working-class people inevitably will rise up against injustice.

Al inicio del mes, el Presidente Obama concluyó una cumbre internacional sobre las armas nucleares en Washington, D.C. La declaración final de la cumbre de cuarenta-y-siete naciones acordó bloquear ciertas naciones de obtener la tecnología para energía y armas nucleares avanzadas.

Los EE.UU. continúa tener a países como Irán y Corea del Norte en su mira para el desarmamiento nuclear mientras que ignora cuando su aliados, como Israel, los adquieren. Mientras que los EE.UU. retiene el derecho para atacar con armas nucleares, el país continúa siendo el único que ha usado un arma nuclear contra otra nación y tiene la reserva más grande y avanzada de armamento nuclear.

En vez de llamar para un “mundo sin armas nucleares” deberíamos aumentar nuestro llamado para desarmar el poder nuclear más peligroso que existe- el Pentágono.

Aniversario del Veredicto de Rodney King

El 29 de abril marca 18 años desde la insurrección del 1992 de Los Ángeles iniciado por el veredicto intolerable de un jurado que encontró a cuatro oficiales de policías blancos “no culpable” por la golpiza brutal de un hombre negro, Rodney King.

Después del veredicto, la rebelión tomo mucho del Sur de Los Ángeles- el corazón de las comunidades Negras y Latinas. Diez de miles estaban en las calles, mostrando de nuevo, que debajo del sistema racista del capitalismo la clase trabajadora inevitablemente se levantará contra la injusticia.
