Vigil For Victim In Oakland Beating Death

Date:
Friday, April 23, 2010
Time:
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Location Details:
meet on 1800 Block of Telegraph Ave.

A vigil will be held this afternoon in honor of a 59-year-old San Francisco man who died after a brutal attack in downtown Oakland last week.

Community members will rally in the 1800 block of Telegraph Avenue, where Tian Sheng Yu and his 27-year-old son were randomly attacked by two men on April 16.

In addition to honoring Yu, the 3 p.m. gathering is intended to bring the community together to rally against crimes that target seniors and minorities.

"No more violence," Yu's widow Zhi Rui Wang said in a statement. "No more crying from any family. I wish we have a harmonious community!"

Two 18-year-old men were arrested in connection with Yu's death and were arraigned on murder charges in Alameda County Superior Court on Thursday.

The suspects, Lavonte Drummer and Dominic Davis, are being held in the Santa Rita jail in Dublin without bail.
