Jeezus, here we go again. Latuff himself is a lost cause after submitting an award-winning cartoon to the Denial Conference sponsored by Iran. But when will Latuff's fans finally understand that the kind of special hatred Latuff aims at Jews (in general, not just Jewish citizens of Israel -- and even there, not all Jewish Israelis support the policies of their government) is racist antisemitism? The imputation of an apartheid system to the State of Israel, while attractive for smug moralists, is false. While there is some official and plenty of unofficial discrimination against non-Jews in Israel (and against non-white Jews too), there is no Jim Crow in Israel. That there have been places in Europe and the Middle East that prohibited Jewish citizens from sitting in public parks, on public transportation, and from earning a livelihood is undeniable, but in a typical inversion that marks the racist antisemite, historical discrimination against Jews is attributed to modern Jews. Trading victims and perpetrators is a banal technique of all racists, and should not be tolerated by any well-meaning person.
