This spring marks the kick-off of our exciting new literary series, Claim the Block. WritersCorps joins forces with four museums in a one-block radius to present readings by young writers who are connecting to their city, its art, and its vibrant communities. Each of our readings features WritersCorps teachers and students, as well as young artists from each of our partnering organizations.
Through a combination of field trips, site visits, and in-class exercises, our youth have used poetry, prose, and art to engage with the world around them—delving into everything from issues of adolescence to exploring their places within the larger urban landscape of San Francisco. Tonight, teaching artists Rick D'Elia and Aracely Gonzalez accompany students from Aptos Middle School and the International Studies Academy.
Given WritersCorps’ commitment to working in community settings for the past 16 years, we’re excited to partner with Zeum: San Francisco's Children's Museum, which offers a hands-on, multimedia arts and technology experience for kids.
