Please join WILPF in honoring three women who have lead us in challenging the obstacles that keep women from making a sustaining income.
Leticia Mendoza, Executive Director of the Watsonville YWCA, runs their teen pregnancy prevention/stay in high school program, which emphasizes the positive opportunities of attending institutions of higher or vocational education to increase young women’s probability of attaining financial independence.
Nora Hochman, organizer for CUE Santa Cruz Local #10, has been instrumental in the passage of living wage ordinances in the City and County of Santa Cruz.
Chris Johnson-Lyons, Executive Director of the Community Action Board, will talk about how Women’s Ventures trains women for non-traditional careers in carpentry and other building trades, helping them break one of the traditional barriers to women getting jobs that pay enough for them to support their families.
Tuesday April 20, 7 pm, Quaker Meeting House , 225 Rooney St., Santa Cruz (off Hwy 1 at Morrissey).
Free, everyone welcome, donations cheerfully accepted! 831 457 6797 for more info.
