The Money Fix: Local Currency Film Screening and Discussion
Sunday, April 25th, 6-9pm
Freedom Archives, 522 Valencia St. SF
Join us for an exciting evening of inspiring film and discussion with the director of the Money Fix, Alan Rosenblith, and local currency activists about the problems of the current centralized monetary system and new currency solutions proposed in the Bay Area and beyond. Interest in complementary currencies is exploding as the conventional financial system is becoming increasingly manipulated and controlled by and for the benefit of a few large, multinational corporations. The greater Bay Area is now a hotbed for currency projects rising up to challenge this system. Learn how you can get involved in creating a more equitable and sustainable local economy. This event is sponsored by Bay Area Community Exchange as a fundraiser to send Joaquim Melo from Brazil, founder of the most successful currency project to uplift the poor, to present Banco Palmas at the US Social Forum, as well as Mira Luna, the Director of Bay Area Community Exchange, to present Community Currencies 101.
About the Money Fix: Money is at the intersection of nearly every aspect of modern life. Most of us take the monetary system for granted, but it has a profound and largely misunderstood influence on our lives. The Money Fix is a feature-length documentary exploring our society’s relationship with the almighty dollar. The Money Fix examines economic patterning in both the human and the natural worlds, and through this lens we learn how we can empower ourselves by redesigning the lifeblood of the economy at the community level. The film documents three types of alternative money systems, all of which help solve economic problems for the communities in which they operate. This film will utterly transform the way you perceive money and economics. See the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trl5_BCL0qs
