Defend Glen Cove!

by Earth First!
Flier for distribution regarding the defense of the Glen Cove sacred burial site in Vallejo, CA.
defendglencove.pdf_600_.jpg
Last weekend, on the first day of the SF Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair, John Zerzan briefly discussed the recent cover story of the Chronicle, bringing awareness to the ever important task of defending the earth.

(As most of the discussion seems to be regarding the pieing of Lierre Keith, it would benefit us to emphasize on something else.)

Last fall, the beginning of a construction project began which has only so far destroyed a few non-native trees. However, this spring will bring the continuation of the project which will continue to effectively destroy and degrade this ancient shellmound. A small group of native peoples and their supporters have been protesting this desecreation but continue to seek supporters and need your help!

Much needed organizing needs to be done to appropriately defend this sacred site. Please share this flier and educate others regarding this issue. Look forward to upcoming protests and help defend this sacred site.

"We have taken their [Indians] acorns, grasshoppers, fisheries, and hunting grounds from them. The ponds where the wild fowl assembled in the winter, offering them for a time an abundant supply of food, is now the mining and agricultural region of our citizens. The Indian must perish from cold and hunger if this Government does not interpose to save him. From his hunting ground we export an annual average of $60,000,000 in gold, and the revenue paid to the Treasury, from one port in California, exceeds $3,000,000 annually; and yet the miserable pittance of $120,000 to feed and protect these original inhabitants of the country, is refused and cut down to 20,000 dollars, by the grossly unjust policy adopted by the other House. If this is to be the policy of this Government towards this people, it will form a dark page in our history, if it does not bring the vengeance of heaven upon us as a nation". from a speech by Senator Gwin when arguing against the anti-Indian policies of the House of Representatives as reported by the Los Angeles Star, October 30, 1852.

There is not much more left to take. Grandmother earth has been shaking in pain lately. When she suffers-we suffer. Will they ever learn?

We need to show massive support and solidarity for the defense of this space... just like in Stockton with the Coastal Miwok tribe.

What specifically does the Vallejo Inter-tribal Council ask of those who wish to support? Late in the game though it may be?
