T4CW March 1st 2010: Tomas, Radical Teacher and creator of Rad Dad zine
The teachers talked with writing teacher Tomas about his students and classes, and about his zine Rad Dad, a recommended resource whether you're parenting or child-free. Tomas is a regular at the Anarchist Bookfair, and rad dad 17 is fresh off the press. Quote of the show? Tomas works on English and writing skills with students who have "been beat by the system, so they come into this (classroom) in a confrontational way--as they should." MP3 format 34:40.

We hope to bring you more audio of Tomas--we only had half an hour and have a lot more to cover in future shows. We discussed the differences and similarities between teaching and parenting, the challenges of interacting with the school system and advocating for your kids, strategies for engaging and interacting with students, the less visible challenges that face parents of old(er) kids in their radical communities, and the idea of trusting your kids as they experiment and mature.
Check out the panel discussion at the bookfair this weekend: In the Cafe, Saturday at 12 noon--
"Radical Parenting: Raising Kids & Creating Community"
Teachers 4 Class War airs every Monday at 6 on Freak Radio Santa Cruz, 101.1 FM and freakradio.org

Listeners and supporters, DJs past and present, radiofiles, pirates and revelers will be welcomed to our Freak Radio Fiesta on March 27th at the Kuumbwa--doors at 6, music and more at 7.
Happy Birthday FRSC!
