low wage UC service workers continue pressure on Richard Blum, Mr. DiFi
3.9.2010, 9:00 am at GGNRA's Fort Baker in Marin County, nearly a hundred UC service workers, students and supporters from UCB, UCSF, UCSC, UC Davis entered the hired meeting space of Blum Capital Partnership, the Cavallo Point Lodge at Fort Baker in Sausalito, and picketed the street in front. Richard Blum is the big dog of the UC Regents.
The National Park Service finally ordered us off. No arrests but Blum was once again called on his failure to work on poverty here at home. AFSCME advocates for rehiring the workforce, stopping student fee increases, end the privatization scheme and wants Blum and the Regents to stop playing on Wall Street with California citizen-owned assets.

Once upon a time people who got low paying service jobs only kept them as long as it took to better their situation and move on to a better job. I don't thnk 10-20 years ago that anyone dreamed that someone who has not made any effort to get a better skill set or education could earn what they do today. I am sorry but trying to get the same wages as someone who has made an effort to get ahead in life by cleaning toilets, driving a bus, or washing dishes is nuts.
