Change the world you raise your children & change the world!
"The function of the child is to live his own life - not the life that his anxious parents think he should live, nor a life according to the purpose of the educator who thinks he knows best. All this interference and guidance on the part of adults only produces a generation of robots. We set out to make a school in which we should allow children freedom to be themselves."
- A.S Neill, Summerhill School
Operating in the free-democratic tradition, Wildcat Community FreeSchool serves children ranging in age from 5-14 years old, K-8th grades. Children at Wildcat Community FreeSchool shape their own learning experiences, and their choices are respected and supported. From sailing and hiking trips to pottery and construction projects, the school provides solid resources for motivated and meaningful learning in the arts, sciences, math, reading, and writing. At WCF, the flow between academics and the real world is obvious and natural.
The Wildcat Community FreeSchool Guiding Principles
Children need respect, choices, and the freedom to develop their own gifts, talents, and interests in a healthy balanced environment.
Wildcat Community FreeSchool is...
• A place where the children have a part in setting boundaries and consequences, and a choice in developing their own curriculum.
• A place where children and adults cultivate a relationship of honesty and trust, and where each child's innate wisdom and desires are honored.
• A place that nurtures all learning styles and energy levels.
• A place where children are treated fairly and are not compared to others, where a child's creative and academic brilliance is not measured or graded.
