A revolutionary play written and performed by residents currently living, struggling and sometimes even thriving life in Single Room Occupancy Hotels (SRO's) aka Poor People Housing
When: Wednesday, March 17, 6:30pm
Where: First Christian Church
111 Fairmount Ave- Oakland (nr the Grocery Outlet)
$5-15.00 – no-one turned away for lack of funds
“Countless poor people die unknown, unremembered in Single Room Occupancy Hotels every year,” said Robert Webber, one of the tenant actors and writers of Hotel Voices- revolutionary production in his scene.
From El Bedbug, an irony-filled, menace, confidant, and terror to Supertenant the mythical spirit of all low-income tenants. Hotel Voices features a cast of real life and mythical characters to take us through a hilarious, tragic and lyrical look inside the life and struggle of people living in poor people housing in the Bay Area.
The original concept of the play was launched by well-known poet, tenant organizer and childrens’ book author Tony Robles. Tony collaborated with published author, poet and survivor of SRO’s, homelessness and founder of POOR Magazine, Tiny aka Lisa Gray-Garcia.
Following its sold out show in San Francisco, this will be the first staging of Hotel Voices in Oakland.
