please join us on Thursday, February 25th in Union Square (near Powell BART in San Francisco) from 4-6 p.m. for a participatory, theatrical nonviolent demonstration as part of an International Day of Action called for by organizers in Palestine/Israel. From Hebron to Jerusalem, from Cape Town to Indianapolis, people will be taking action together to draw attention to Israeli apartheid policies of separation, restriction of movement and civil rights discrimination as elements of the occupation.
Shuhada Street, the main street in the West Bank City of Hebron, has been closed to Palestinians since February 25th, 1994, when an Israeli settler massacred Palestinians in Hebron's mosque. Hebron organizers from Youth Against Settlements, Ta'ayush and other regional anti-occupation groups have called for activists around the world to demonstrate in solidarity with the Palestinian residents of Shuhada Street, and all Palestinians resisting occupation, colonization and apartheid.
For more information, check out the global action website at Openshuhadastreet.org, including a list of contacts for other locations. Please pass the word on!
We'd love to have you join us in San Francisco and are looking for more people to get involved with planning and outreach. Please rsvp to sfopenshuhadast [at] gmail.com if you're interested in a number of different roles that will be available that day, or to get involved with organizing. You can also contact Majdi with Students for Justice in Palestine at majman7 (at) yahoo.com to learn more about a Berkeley action.
This action is being organized by Dialogues Against Militarism with members of People of Color Action Theater, International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Catalyst Project and War Resisters League (for identification purposes only)-- in alliance with other organizations locally and with the Open Shuhada Street Coalition in Palestine/Israel.
