Oakland gubernatorial candidate holds kickoff Monday, will meet with area Press Tuesday
OAKLAND - Oakland resident Laura Wells - who garnered nearly a half million votes in a 2002 run for State Controller - will hold a CAMPAIGN KICKOFF to announce she is running for the Green Party nomination for Governor MONDAY, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at La Estrellita Restaurant, 446 East 12th St. at 5th Ave.
Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, Fairfax Mayor Lew Tremaine and Vice-Mayor Larry Bragman - all Greens - will attend the kickoff Monday night.
Tuesday, Ms Wells will meet with members of the the news media at a NEWS CONFERENCE at 9:30 a.m. at the Coffee Mill in Oakland (3363 Grand Ave).
Ms. Wells, 62, is a former financial and business analyst. Her 420,000 vote count in 2002 is the most any state Green Party candidate has received in a partisan statewide race.
An expert in stocks, bond, pension funds and real estate, Ms Wells continues the tradition of Peter Camejo, an investment specialist who made several runs for governor earlier this century.
Ms. Wells is expected to outline a plan to "fix the way money works" in California, creating a fairer tax system to benefit the vast majority of taxpayers, and providing "great" schools, universal healthcare, job opportunities and a cleaner environment.
