Rosa Parks Day in California

by Michael Harris (blackagriculture [at] yahoo.com)
Alice Huffman, President of the California Conference of the NAACP and Willis Edwards, Executive Producer of the Rosa Parks Story continue the journey to challenge and remove legal systemic institutional racism, sexism and xenophobic belief from our California State Constitution and California State Laws today. We are developing a statewide Rosa Parks Day in California Planning Committee to share the "Spirit in Water... Tribute to Dear Rosa."

Sacramento, CA ~ Our Rosa Parks Day in California Planning Committee is building a statewide effort to expand educational outreach to school children and honor those who participated in the broader civil rights movement to celebrate Rosa Parks Day in California.

The State of California has a very unique “Civil Rights” legacy beginning with Spanish military occupation in 1535 and through the end of the U.S./Mexico War in 1848. California Constitution Convention at Colton Hall, Monterey in 1849 helped create California statehood in 1850. The journey to challenge and remove legal systemic institutional racism, sexism and xenophobic beliefs from our California State Constitution and California State Laws continues today.

The life legacy of Rosa Parks reminds us just how far we have come as a nation and reminds us to consider her principled fundamental wisdom as we face today’s challenges. “I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people,” these simple words from Rosa Parks share our best hope for global citizens today.

This year we honor leading California “Women Warriors” as positive role models who demonstrate the faith and courage of Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, Regina Yee, Mary Hights, Dolores Huerta, Ruby Muhammad, First Lady Maria Shriver, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, Penny Kastanis, Paula Lorenza and Alice Huffman will receive the inaugural Rosa Parks Day in California Service Awards, we honor their unique contributions to the forward flow of humanity.

"Rosa Parks Day in California" and our unique “Season of California Civil Rights Story” will become signature statewide education and advocacy events to begin the celebration of Black History Month throughout the Great State of California.
