Hear José Luis Baquedano General Secretary of the Honduran United Workers Federation (CUTH) and a leading member of the National Resistance Front Against the Coup in Honduras.

The United Workers Federation (CUTH - Confederación Unitaria de Trabajadores de Honduras) represents 250,000 urban and rural workers in Honduras. It is part of the National Front against the Coup d'État. The CUTH and two other major Labor confederations in Honduras are responsible for organizing several national strikes in Honduras that have mobilized hundreds of thousands of workers to protest both the military coup, which took place on June 28, 2009, and the illegitimate government that now rules the country.

The demands of the strikers, their communities and their student allies include: an unconditional reinstatement of President Manuel Zelaya, an end to government repression of the Honduran people, the restoration of all democratic rights and, most important, a Constituent Assembly that would democratically represent the vast majority of population.

Labor has been a key player in the social movements engaged in popular resistance to the coup government of Roberto Micheletti. Please take this opportunity to learn first hand about the struggle for democracy and workers' rights in Honduras.
