Karl Marx is coming to Marin!
Howard Zinn's
Marx in Soho
Howard Zinn's play "Marx in Soho," a one-man show, will be performed at the First United Methodist Church, 9 Ross Valley Drive, San Rafael on Friday, January 15 at 7 PM.
Howard Zinn, author of "A Peoples History of the United States," gives the audience a rare glimpse of Marx "the man"― the pedantic Marx, the vindictive Marx, the loving family man, Marx the humorist, and a Marx that can laugh at his enemies at the same time he expresses outrage at social injustice. The play offers an entertaining and thorough introduction to Marx's life and valuable insight to his ideas. In poignant, funny, and intimate narrative, Zinn convinces us not only that Marx is not dead but rather his critique of capitalism is more than relevant today.
Jerry Levy, who plays a convincing Marx, has been touring the United States, Canada and Europe for over four years.
"Marx in Soho" is sponsored by the Task Force on the Americas. Admission is $15-25 sliding scale. The venue is wheelchair accessible. For information: 415/924-3227, mitf [at] igc.org, http://www.mitfamericas.org, or http://www.levyarts.com.
