The attack on public education threatens the destruction of edu-
cation to all working people in California. Millions of students
and education workers are being drastically affected from fur-
loughs and layoffs to massive increases in fees making it impos-
sible for working class and poor students from going to school.
In urban and poor working class school districts teachers are
facing cutbacks on their healthcare and benefits while there is a
large increase in the size of the classes making education even
more difficult. At the same time the administrators are pushing
privatization and charter schools as the solution.
This forum will have education workers and students as well as
trade unionists from other industries. The March 4, 2010 day
of action to defend public education is not just about education
workers and students but all working people.
