On Saturday December 19, the San Francisco-based grass-roots health reform organization "Single Payer Now" holds it's Annual Potluck in San Francisco, at St Mary’s Cathedral at Gough and Geary at 3pm; confirmed speakers: Assembly Member Tom Ammiano from San Francisco and Congress Member Eric Massa from New York. Massa was one of two co-sponsors of the single payer bill in Congress, HR 676, which would provide health care to everyone in the country and eliminate the insurance industry. Massa also voted against HR 3962, the recently passed House health reform bill which, in his words: “…will enshrine in law the monopolistic powers of the private health insurance industry.” Ammiano, when he was on the SF Board of Supervisors, was the author of the ordinance that created "Healthy San Francisco"; and strongly supports California's single payer bill, SB 810. Single payer legislation has been passed twice by the California legislature--and vetoed twice by Governor Schwarzenegger. There is no admission charge, but please bring a potluck food item to share.
