Now I remember who Dee Allen is. He stands out at various protests (such as for the Iraq war) for being a chant leader, or a voice. He is always standing with a bullhorn, but he does not run around. He doesn't wave his arms around very much because his hands are full with flyers.
I hope everyone brings whatever they can give.
support Dee Allen - he's a fkn down-ass comrade
... changing the purpose of the benefit to raising funds for Dee to continue his schooling? Along with a celebration for he and the others released.
it's not clear that they won't eventually charge someone with something. The wire article said that they're hard at work searching for evidence. They have a videotape from somewhere and were trying to identify people on it. I wonder if it was from surveillance cameras on campus, or a dashcam, or filmed by a pedestrian. In any case, they had four days over the weekend to come up with evidence for these 8, and it didn't happen.
True, the charges can still be prosecuted within a year's time.
Has Dave id's camera been released to him?? If Dave said anything about this today outside of the courthouse, I missed it. Not that I expect that the footage would be particularly helpful to the D.A..
Also, there's this whole thing that D.A.s sometimes do where they attempt to character-assasinate defendants at arraignments based on previous arrests --- even if the previous arrests led to no convictions, or led to charges being dropped. In other words, if any of the eight get arrested again within the next year (even assuming that the D.A. never prosecutes any of them in relation to Friday's events), they can probably expect that their previous arrest records will be dragged into court....
