Support the UC8 - Arraignments on Monday

Date:
Monday, December 14, 2009
Time:
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Event Type:
Court Date
Organizer/Author:

Location Details:
The UC8 are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, come show your support in Oakland!

Support the UC8! At least two of the eight (and in all likelihood, the other six as well) are to be arraigned tomorrow at the courthouse in downtown Oakland. Please come and show your support for these victims of the police state!

The UC 8 are a group of eight people wrongfully arrested following a march against the fee hikes and other administrative misdoings last Friday, January 11th. They were arrested not for any wrongdoing, but because they happened to be in the march. The cops arre attempting to charge all eight with enough felony charges to drive their bails up to $132,000, making it impossible for supporters to raise even a 10% ($13,000) bond for one of them, let alone eight times that amount (around $104,000). To our knowledge, the eight are all share the same or similar charges and bail amounts. The charges contain such ludicrous claims as arson, burglary, and assaulting a peace officer, among other things.

Please come out and show your support for those wrongfully arrested!

umm -- there is one i don't have arraignment info for, but most of the arraignments are for tomorrow. if we're trying to mobilize support, let's not send people on wild goose chases. they might not come out a second time.

Hey person who put wtf: since you seem to know, would you clarify that the above is correct? We dot D's info, and saw Carwin's info, and figured the rest were same time too. Is that correct?

If someone else had posted it sooner, we wouldn't have, but no one had, so we did. We figured it was worth it, even though we didn't have all the info.

Hey Indybay editors, any chance of changing this event?

The Arraignments are scheduled for Tuesday, not Monday. I sincerely apologize.

Same time, same place. But on Tuesday.

It doesn't look like that's correct either. From what I can gather, the DA keeps switching around the arraignment dates. With luck, stuff won't get switched around again. They probably want to avoid precisely the kind of thing that this posting is designed to create -- solidarity. . .
