Maple Flavour Films and Sidekick
Since Boxing Day is right around the corner, we figured we'd get you in the mood for it by hosting a double-feature (of sorts) from Canada! And you should still be out before 9:30!
First up: Maple Flavour Films:
In April 2006, the creators of the Canadian feature film "Sidekick" embarked on a cross Canada journey with the one and only print of their film, screening it for Canadians from Halifax to Vancouver. Besides chronicling the ups-and-downs of their coast-to-coast adventure, they also took to the streets to talk to everyday Canadians and film industry professionals about the current state of the Canadian film industry. Honest, frank and often humourous, Maple Flavour Films is a documentary not to be missed.
Followed by: Sidekick
Mild-mannered computer consultant Norman Neale has two great loves in this cruel world: comic books and his office's effervescent main receptionist, Andrea Hicks (Mackenzie Lush, who was the first to play Shelly in "Evil Dead: The Musical"). Norman spends his days dreaming of Andrea from the isolation of his cubicle and his nights dreaming of fighting crime from the solitude of his apartment. Then one fateful day Norman discovers that a fellow co-worker, Victor Ventura, a swaggering, pretty-boy salesman, has slight telekinetic abilities beyond his understanding. After discussing his mind-blowing discovery with his only friend Chuck (Daniel Baldwin), a know-it-all comic book store owner, Norman comes to the outlandish conclusion that he should train Victor to become a real-life superhero by helping him refine and expand his extraordinary ability. Norman envisions an exciting new future for himself battling the city's criminal elements as Victor's faithful sidekick. But things don't always work out the way they are envisioned...
