Protest to keep good jobs in Oakland. Waste Management of Alameda County (WMAC) is outsourcing 37 jobs. WMAC made over a billion $$ in profits in '08. Local fees paid for trash will pay Custormer Service Reps in Washington, & LA. Hurting the economy of Alameda County, and the families of the laid off workers- mostly females, from minority communities, heading their households.

It's quite correct to resist when companies try to save themselves money by firing workers and hiring others at lower wages. However, how does it advance working-class solidarity to argue for keeping jobs in Oakland as opposed to Washington (city or state) or Los Angeles? Doesn't it, in fact, create or exacerbate local particularism among workers at both ends?
