CSUF students will takeover the library to protest budget cutbacks. Here is what an email from participating students said:

The library closes on Fridays at 5PM and it is closed all day on Saturdays which leaves students with no place to study on Friday nights or all day on Saturdays. We see this as merely part of a much bigger problem at our University, but nevertheless it is a big problem because we paid for the library and we are being limited to accessing it. On friday the 20th, students are gathering on the second floor of the library at 4-4:30 to begin a study-in. As i said, the library close at 5, but we do not intend on leaving and plan on engaging in a non-violent, peaceful demonstration to "study-in" for the night. We are part of a statewide movement of students that are working to bring about a more democratic University and save it from the inevitable future that privatization of education brings: an education system only available to elites which leaves lower, working and middle class people excluded. The "Master Plan" of 1960, which said education should be free to all California students is being washed away by privatization. The week of Nov 15-20 is a week of action known as International Education Week. I wanted to inform you of this because i know that you have been active in the Fresno community for years and have been very successful at organizing around social justice issues here in Fresno. We as students need support from our community and community leaders. We hope that you will support us any way that you can. We would love to have supporters outside, or inside, so the administration knows that we are not alone and that they cannot silence us. If at all possible, please send this info to any other community members/organizers that you are in contact with because we need all the support we can get.

Much love from socal UCs... we got your back! We should hopefully have a couple major actions the day before to give you some momentum!

No cuts! No fees! Education should be free!

I am not a spokesperson, but I will tell you that there is a growing group of students at Humboldt State who stand with you in solidarity. Just over a month ago, we took over our Library to protest the gross mismanagement and governing shortshightedness of the budget that has lead to the cutting of majors, classes, days of instruction, faculty, staff, and access to important student services like the health center, learning center, and though hours were not cut at our school specifically -- The Library. We took over this symbolic center of long-term preservation of knowlege. We held an all-night study in/teach in where we held workshops including Self-Determination, Africana Studies, Heteropatriarchy and Sexualized Violence, and many more. We kept the doors open and stayed up learning ALL NIGHT. For 17 hours, we took back the power over our own education. The energy at this event was AMAZING, but on Monday morning business as usual continued.
This is why its important that we continue a conscious campaign, with actions on a daily basis. Yesterday, we attended and disrupted a meeting of our Academic Senate, the governing body of all things academia, & we are in the process of organizing for the next step.
We stand in solidarity with CFSU, all the UCs on the 3 day strike, and with the actions taking place all over the state this week, next week, and as long as it takes for us to reclaim our education.

The University announced this afternoon that, beginning this Saturday, Madden Library will be open from 1 pm to 5 pm. The library will be open on Saturday, Nov. 21, Dec. 5, and Dec. 12. According to the press release, Madden Library will also observe extended hours between Dec. 5 and 16. Saturday hours will be maintained during the Spring 2010 semester. The new hours are being made possible by using one-time federal stimulus funds.

I just got off the phone with one of the student organizers. They had a meeting this evening and they are moving forward with the occupation. They were not satisfied with the administrations gesture of opening up the library for a limited time on Saturday. I will be there with my camera to document what happens.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
