Protest

Location Details:
Quarry Plaza, UC Santa Cruz

On November 18th, we, the UC students, refuse to remain silent. We refuse the methods the UC office of the president and the UC Regents are employing to restructure the university and cut funding; this is simply unacceptable. We will not allow business to continue as usual; we will show the administrators what the consequences of unjustified fee hikes and cuts to necessary programs will look like, a university without students.

We demand transparency and democracy.

The University of California plans on raising student fees by 32% or approximately $2,500. They have initiated massive furloughs, pay slashes, and lay offs for underpaid and overworked university workers. Faculty and lecturers are being laid off left & right and teaching opportunities are shrinking quickly for teachers and TA's. Programs that retain students of color & low-income students are on the chopping block. All the while the university continues to expand construction projects at the cost of education. All the while top level administrators retain massive bonuses and recruit more expensive executives.
