My Friend Hafiz
An Evening of songs and stories inspired by the compassionate poetry of Hafiz.
The Levins & their world folk ensemble are releasing their second musical offering, My Friend Hafiz, a CD of original songs inspired by the Sufi Poetry of 14th century mystic- Hafiz of Shiraz as translated by Daniel Ladinsky in his book, “The Gift. The Levins will celebrate the release of the CD with a party on November 14th, 2009.
Just as their first CD “36”, inspired by Jewish mystic wisdom, carried the message of inclusive understanding, the poetry of Hafiz brings a universal message of compassion and love for all. The release party happens to fall during the week which the Charter for Compassion is unveiled. It is a “call to the world” for people of all faiths, and the nonreligious to come together and help build a more peaceful and harmonious global community*.” It is very apropos that the CD release will fall in the same week as the unveiling and although not an official celebration for The Charter, The Levins will be helping to raise awareness of The Charter during their evening of songs and stories celebrating Hafiz.
Dedicated to promoting peace through sonic splendor, the Levins’music is harmony driven and led by the Bay Area singing storyteller and song leader, Ira Levin (guitar/vocals) and Julia Bordenaro Levin of the internationally acclaimed
a cappella group Vocolot (keyboard/vocals). They are joined by their world folk ensemble, T.Hallenbeck (cello /mandolin), Aharon Wheels Bolsta (tabla) and percussionist, Elizabeth Stuart, also of Vocolot.
My Friend Hafiz by The Levins will be available at Amazon.com, CD Baby, I-Tunes and Amoeba Music on Nov. 3rd, 2009.
