If there's anything we learned in Pittsburgh, it's that we can never have enough practice marching in blocs!
"Your Favorite Combination of Red and Black" ? WTF?
The authors have put forward a mixed statement which is dangerous. They showcase an image with a bunch of punks and "radicals" who are masked yet not bloc'd, and call for people to wear a combination of red and black. This is a very, very, bad idea. You should never dress like this at a demo. If you want it to be low-key, dress like it. Dress in normal, every-day people clothes. If you want it to be militant, dress that way; dress in militant, disciplined clothing; ie, a black outer layer which can quickly be changed. This middle-ground of looking counter-cultural, anarcho-punk-chic thing is dangerous and stupid. Surely there was a mixup somewhere.

Sure it's nice to all look black. And its common sense to have a quick change.
But appearance as a broad spectrum of population has a media advantage too...just keep a change if you choose to appear "corporate normal" as well. No need to give the PoPos an easy job.
Bring traction denial systems as well...they can be infinitely useful. (detergents, marbles, fire hydrant tools) all are helpful. It is better to be prepared and not need the system, than be unprepared. Oh, REI Bear Spray....always a great backup system, aim for eyes or crotch (crotch is slower bet very effectively debilitating. Can be sprayed int crotch area of target from behind. (Fun for the whole Family).

if you look at the past marches US in the bay has done, you'll see that they usually don't look for confrontation at things like these. The marches are more for building solidarity, meeting new people and getting our message out there. People shouldn't freak out too much about dress code or tactics or anything like that. Think of it more as practice for future street actions.

You can get in trouble for carrying tools of a crime (see the G20 arrests), or for not responding to orders or for barely laying a hand on an officer. Indeed - if one were planning disruptive behavior, vandalism or sabotage, it's often best to stay away from a confined area where you know there will be 200+ police officers. At least show up at a different time of day, such as midnight or right now. duh
If the big picture idea is to inspire intense imagery for the newspaper with 'radicals' standing near police officers, sending a message 'the antiwar protesters haven't gone away, even though Obama is in office', then the best tactics would be to dress up in striking outfits and bring noisemakers, and also bring your own photographer to make sure it gets recorded.

If you go out into the street, especially as an anti-authoritarian bloc, you have to be ready to get it on then and there. I am not trying to be macho or anything like that, it is just that if you want to challenge the powers that oppress us, you need to be ready and prepared. Alot of times, the situation at the moment determines how things are going to go down and you need to know how to react. You never know what might happen at a street protest and especially with an anti-authoritarian bloc. You can't say we are only using this as a training excerise and this anti-authoritarian bloc won't really be stirring shit up today. This is the anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan, and the powers that started and wage these imperalist wars need to be confronted, then and there. If UA is posting this as an anti-authoritarian bloc, then they should be willing and determined to challenge authority when they march, and so should others who are part of the bloc. You should know what you are getting yourself into and you should be ready to respond to the situation. If not, don't organize an anti-authoritarian bloc and don't march in one.
PS- US in the Bay??? That is a typo right?

Organize Chaos for a Stateless Classless Society! "practice rioting maybe? that could be fun" Letting out that pure raw aggression is good practice for when the shit hits the fan. Hit the streets. Think of it as a training ground for war because everyday in life is a struggle and we are at war, CLASS WAR: a war against the rich and powerful, wealthy elite, against the state that protects capital, against all forms of hierarchy. Humanity is burdened by growing up into labels of poor, rich or middles class. Divide and Conquer is the reason why we are so divided. It’s all made by design.
Their Agenda-the mentality
“Keep them sedated. Keep them divided. Keep them off the streets. Don't let them disrupt business as usual. Let the machine run with out any resistance, without interruption. Never mind that man behind the curtain.
-Just Conform
-Bow down to authority
-No independent thought
-Consume
-Obey
-Live by the clock
-Money is your god
-Your only purpose in life is work, consume, pay taxes, bills and shut the fuck up.
-You have no purpose in life, no direction, no cause but to work and die for empire
-Slave Mentality will prevail"
I don't care what we do out there. Let's just do something, anything but being silent has got to be the right answer.
Staying home is for nihilists
impressive
Religious fanatics blowing themselves up isn't that impressive, but in the end will probably force the US out of Afghanistan and will topple the corrupt Karzai govt. But then it is back to dark ages of the Taliban and their Religious fundamentalist and mysognistic madness. So, religious nutcases and sucide bombers aren't that impressive.
The Taliban would have never consolidated its power in the first place had it not been for the U.S.. U.S. deliberately fostered -- spent tons of money on fostering -- in Afghanistan what is now called "Islamic extremism." In its quest for control of the oil in the Caspian Sea area, and its quest to gain a foothold in a region that is significant from the standpoint of global captalism and imperialism, the U.S. figured that its best bet in terms of waging a proxy war against Russia was to fund and support the likes of the Taliban.
What i most care about today is numbers , the bigger the better. Why ? Because i hope at least 15-20, 000 will show uo to say as regards the '' Good war'' in Afghanistan , Not in my name ! (A great slogan even if created by a certain Maoist personanlty cult )
But i'm worried that maybe only 5, 000 will appear . Why ? Because incredible as it seems to me many , who say they do want all the troops home now ,still don't want to seen as ''marching against our president '' (as one African-American co worker said to me )
Challenging those illusions and the ones created by the Ulltra Right's irrational hatred of the Democrats (That is if the Becks, O' Reilys, Hannitys, and Limbaughs hate Obama so much he can't be all bad ) is what i'm concerned about .
I'm for militancy that makes sense . A mass miltant sit- in (not prerranged CD ) of a Heath insurance corp , officies . A hundred plus people at 6am outside of a home about to be foreclosed or a apt. house where folks are facing eviction . More actions like the the 2008 ILWU West Coast shutdown of West Coast ports against the wars. Getting hundreds of local activists down to wherever that murdering cop Mehserle stands trial . (SEE YESTERDAY'S OUTRAGEOUS DECISION MOVING THAT TRIAL OUT OF ALAMEDA COUNTY )
Those type of actions are worth risking arrest, injury and jail time for. Not running around the streets of San Francisco looking for a target that you can (maybe ) spray paint or break a couple of windows .
