Donna Haraway speaks with erudition about dogs, cyborgs, humans, machines, technoscience, genetics, gender, nature, culture, consciousness, philosophy, emergent ontologies, organisms, social relationships, Michel Foucault, primatology, and socialist feminism. She earned degrees in zoology and philosophy before completing a PhD in biology at Yale University; her dissertation concerned the functions of metaphor in shaping the field of developmental biology in the 20th century.
In 2000 Haraway was awarded the highest honor given by the Society for Social Studies of Science for her lifetime contributions to the field. For three decades she has been deeply involved with the History of Consciousness program at UC Santa Cruz, one of the first (and still one of the finest) interdisciplinary graduate programs in the country.
