The Peace Action agenda is filling up fast for both the national office and affiliates from coast to coast. With developing news on Iran's nuclear program, joint talks coming up with Iran and North Korea, new troop requests for Afghanistan and new initiatives on nuclear disarmament, the ground seems to shift beneath our feet. In the spirit of keeping on top of events and assessing how best to act, on October 27 Peace Action of San Mateo County will host a talk with Peace Action West Political Director Rebecca Griffin. The talk will take place at 7 PM in Beck Hall of the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez (at Ellsworth) in San Mateo.
We don't know exactly what the evening will look or sound like, but we plan to focus on what is relevant to working for peace and what we all can do to achieve the best results. As PAW's Political Director, Rebecca has her ear to the ground on what is important. She is currently heading up a campaign to "Get Afghanistan Right," as well as to promote the best diplomatic solutions with Iran. She traveled there in May with the Fellowship of Reconciliation and developed a number of insights. Her blogs on Iran, Afghanistan and other Peace Action-related subjects can be found by logging on to http://www.peaceactionwest.org and clicking the link to "Groundswell," the Peace Action West blog.
Peace Action West was formerly called California Peace Action, but it expanded its outreach to other western states. With a greater reach comes a greater responsibility to get our message out. That is where Rebecca often comes in, traveling and organizing with community leaders and citizens, meeting with members of Congress, and educating candidates about pragmatic and peaceful solutions to our greatest foreign policy challenges. On October 27 she will share some of her insights with us on vital issues of the moment.
Admission is free, light refreshments as always will be on hand. The Unitarian Universalists is wheelchair accessible.
