Events across the country will commemorate those lost in Afghanistan – both military and civilian – on the eighth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan. The San Francisco Vigil began the day after the bombing began: October 8.
“This event is a testament to our commitment to change course in Afghanistan,” says AFSC’s Stephen McNeil. “Not one more Afghan or one more U.S. soldier should be killed and not one more dollar spent on sustaining this war and occupation. We should focus on diplomacy and reconstruction instead.”
This event is sponsored by AFSC and the San Francisco Vigil (which in turn is sponsored by the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, and the San Francisco Friends Meeting. The AFSC has organized hundreds of commemorations for the Afghanistan war, including an Eyes Wide Open Afghanistan exhibit in front of the White House this past weekend.
