COMMEMORATING 40 YEARS OF MOVEMENT HISTORY AND 517 YEARS OF INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE

We invite you to the annual sunrise gathering on Alcatraz Island to commemorate 517 years (1492-2009) of Indigenous Peoples
ʼ resistance to colonization of the Americas and the 40th anniversary of the takeover of Alcatraz by American Indian activists from California and across Turtle Island. Join us in the sacred circle to honor those who sacrificed their lives for us to be here today. Join us to protect sacred places and Mother Earth, defend human rights and achieve justice for Leonard Peltier and all human rights defenders. Tobacco and prayers will be offered to the fire for coming generations.
Everyone is welcome.
Featuring: IITC Board members Lenny Foster (Dineh) & Alcatraz Veteran, Faith Gemmill (Gwich'in, Alaska), Radley Davis (Pit River); IITC Executive Director Andrea Carmen (Yaqui); All Nations Drummers, Aztec and Pomo Dancers, and other special guests.

a.m. Wheel chair accessible, minimal parking, wear something
