This Thursday-night series brings five unique and powerful voices to the Bay Area: Daisy Khan; Mehri Pirooz; Jonathan Curiel; Omid Safi; & Imam Bilal Hyde.
Khan, executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement and a Washington Post columnist, speaks on "Countering Extremism through Youth & Women's Leadership in Islam." Pirooz, an educator & counselor in Iran and the U.S. who lectures on spirituality and the Koran, will address "Early Women in Islam." Curiel, the author of "Al' America: Travels Through America's Arab & Islamic Roots," will give a talk based on his book. Safi, who teaches on Islamic mysticism, thought, & history at the University of North Carolina, speaks about issues covered in his forthcoming book "Memories of Muhammad: Why the Prophet Matters." Hyde, who serves as the imam at San Quentin Prison & has pursued Sufism for over 30 years, will address "Sufism: The Inner Teachings of Islam."
