UNtraining White Liberal Racism, Phase I Group begins
The UNtraining is a forum for exploring what it means to be white in a small, committed group of white people. We are motivated to investigate our white conditioning so we can better address racism wherever we find it--within ourselves, in our daily lives, our institutions, and our social justice work. Phase One introduces the basic tools and concepts of the UNtraining with experiential exercises, journaling, readings, and group discussion. Fundamental tools include:
- Multi-dimensionality – how to hold the complexity of our experience in basic human goodness, beyond the dichotomy of “good white person” versus “bad racist person”
- Tracking – how to find the white training within ourselves
- Core Issue – how our personal stories allow the training to “hook” us
The Fall 2009 Phase One group starts on October 11. An application and telephone interview are required. Phase One is a total of six sessions, meeting once a month for five hours on a Sunday afternoon. The group is limited to 10 participants. Cost is sliding scale from $360 to $660.
