Art and Health--with or without papers

A multidisciplinary project by a team of local artists, doctors, and lawyers chronicling the tribulations and celebrating the courage of those crossing the border through storytelling in music, circus performance, live painting, sculpture and photography. these performances will also serve to provide information about where and how to access health care in san francisco--with or without papers.

Pushing their creative sound into a more abstract direction, Rupa & the April Fishes will be scoring an evening of storytelling and dance, of live painting and photography, of found sound gathered from countless interviews taken along the US-Mexico border, in detention centers and here in San Francisco. They are honored to be joined by Pan-American Circus Performers under the choreographic direction of Sara Shelton Mann, border documentary photographer Lars Howlett and sculptor Carlos Cartagena to create an unforgettable evening of celebration and recognition of the journey.

These shows will have a physician/health advocate and immigration lawyer staffing an information table in the lobby, releasing into our community a concise flyer describing of what health care is available and how to safely access those services in San Francisco, regardless of immigration status.

This project is funded by the generous support of the SF Arts Commission's Cultural Equity Grant and is fiscally sponsored by counterPULSE.
