It is with great pride that Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is announcing their 20th Anniversary reception! This celebration is both a tribute to the tenacity and vision of the African working class leadership of the African People’s Education & Defense Fund in building this self-reliance institution to fund its community programs for health, education and human rights. It is also a great big THANK YOU to all of its shoppers, donors and volunteers for their tremendous support over the last 20 years. Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles has been a fixture on Grand Avenue in Oakland, serving the bay area community with quality, affordable used and recycled furniture.
The celebration will include very special guest Ironiff Ifoma, the national President who will be presenting a tribute to the many powerful programs of the African People’s Education & Defense Fund. Some of the programs that will be highlighted are:

· The Uhuru House community centers in Oakland, Philadelphia and Florida that
house the campaigns, programs and forums.
· TyRon Lewis Community Gym - The only nonprofit, African-owned gym of its kind
providing everyone the opportunity to exercise in a friendly, supportive atmosphere
  on a sliding scale basis.
· African Village Survival Initiative - Food, water, energy and self-sustaining
economic institutions in the African community are the focus providing a collective
response to the impact of the current economic crisis on the African community in
the U.S. and around the world.
· Uhuru Basketball Program and the Healthy Connections newsletter.

The Celebration will include delicious food, a special raffle drawing, musical performances from a diversity of performers such as violinist Ray Landsberg and more. Additionally, there will be special recognitions for our volunteers, donors and shoppers. Attendance is FREE!
