***URGENT: SEIU 1021 Members' Meeting***

Saturday Aug 29, 1-3pm
301 Eddy St @ Jones
Community Rm at Tenderloin Police Station
San Francisco

Our Union will never be strong—and we will continue to lose ground as workers—if we the members don’t have control of it. And we will never have control of it without elections.

We need an election. And to have an election we need Bylaws.

As a group of concerned members of SEIU 1021, calling ourselves Change1021, we consider this very important because:

Representation – has been declining in most areas and completely neglected in many others. Without Bylaws, we cannot institute a more democratic structure where members’ voices are listened to, and we also cannot hold elections and the rank-and-file will have no say on the day-to-day issues of protecting our workers on the job.

Financial Transparency and Accountability – Members are not involved in how our dues gets spent. Bylaws will institute financial transparency and member-oversight of financial issues; and elections will let members elect rank-and-file leaders with their values on financial transparency, priorities, and accountability.

Democracy and Rank and File Control – Members either have no voice in their union, or find that their democratically-made decisions in our Chapters, COPE, and Regional Bodies are ignored.

Our union’s Executive Board and Officers are appointed. They were not elected. At this time, members have no recourse. Bylaws will give members a democratic structure to make decisions and these bodies will have true decision-making power and control over the actions and resources of our union.

Without Bylaws, our union will be pushed into Receivership which means our union will have appointed leadership for future years—taking away any hope of Rank-and-File control.

COME TO THIS URGENT RANK-AND-FILE MEMBERS AND LEADERS MEETING WHERE WE WILL PLAN OUT HOW TO MAKE 1021 STRONGER, DEMOCRATIC, AND ACCOUNTABLE IN PROTECTING AND FIGHTING FOR ITS MEMBERS.
