Screening of Pray the Devil Back to Hell (72 min)
Bortin Fellowship Hall, Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church, 55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek
Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the gripping account of a group of brave and visionary women who demanded peace for Liberia, a nation torn to shreds by a decades-old civil war. The women's historic yet unsung achievement finds voice in a narrative that intersperses contemporary interviews, archival images, and scenes of present-day Liberia together to recount the experiences and memories of the women who were instrumental in bringing lasting peace to their country. http://praythedevilbacktohell.com/
In June 2009 Bill Moyers' Journal profiled Leymah Gbowee, the woman who led her fellow countrywomen to fight for and win peace in war-torn Liberia, and Abigail Disney, who produced the documentary of their struggle and triumph in the award-winning film. See Moyers' show at http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/06192009/profile.html.
