The Bay Area Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club will present a discussion on “Reforming the California Budget and the Process for Change” at its regularly scheduled meeting on July 23rd at the Humanist Hall, 390 27th Street in Oakland. The program begins at 7:30 PM following a potluck and business meeting at 6 PM. The panel consists of San Francisco Assessor Recorder Phil Ting of “Close the Prop 13 Loophole”, www.closetheloophole.com, who states, "California cannot continue to mortgage the future to protect corporate tax loopholes for commercial properties” and proposes adopting a split-roll strategy so that corporate property taxes can increase while homeowners retain their low rates. The panel also includes, UC Berkeley Professor of Linguistics, George Lakoff, who will describe how Californians can frame the debate and begin organizing the movement to reform the budget process. The program is free; please bring a dish to share for the potluck. For more information, check the club’s website at www.wellstoneclub.org or call Pamela Drake at 510-593-3721.
