PLEASE FORWARD!

To all of our friends, comrades, and allied organizations:

On behalf of O22, I would like to invite you all to participate in our first planning/coalition meeting for the annual Protest Against Police Brutality on October 22nd. This will take place this coming Sunday, July 26th at 5pm at Free Mind Media, 546 Pacific Ave. in Santa Rosa.

This last year has seen a tremendous growth in the movement against police violence- from increased activity of our local CopWatch chapters (Santa Rosa and Petaluma), the growth of PACH (Police Accountability Clinic and Helpline), direct action against the Sheriff from O22 after the death of Nathan Vaughn in December, the struggle against I.C.E. raids and car impounds by the Committee for Immigrants´Rights, and all the way to Oakland where young people rebelled after the brutal murder of Oscar Grant. This October, we reassert ourselves in the streets and expand on last years´progress and victories.

Please come participate in the planning process of this protest, bring your friends and folks from your organizations. Bring your demands to the table. What would you like to see from this year´s protest? What sorts of changes would you like to see in regards to police violence? O22 has prepared a proposal for this year´s action, but we want to discuss it, criticize it, modify it, etc. with all the input from our activist community. That´s where you come in...

We all know that our local police continue to violate and abuse us and our people on a routine basis, whether it be in the form of racial profiling and repression(checkpoints in immigrant neighborhoods and arbitrary impounding of cars), harassment of the youth and homeless folks, or the murder of unarmed, innocent civilians. We must get organized in order to reverse this trend of violence and death. Please join us this Sunday and be a part of an organized resistance to police violence in our communities.
