California Budget Crisis
The capitalist system is mired in a deep economic crisis. Millions of people have lost their jobs, homes and healthcare as the burden of the crisis is forced onto working people while the banks are handed trillions in bailout money. California is the 5th largest economy in the world, yet tens of thousands of teachers and other state employees are being fired, foreclosure and unemployment rates are skyrocketing, and seniors and disabled people are losing one benefit after another. What are the real solutions to the California budget crisis? How can we stop the massive cuts?
U.S. Occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan
The Obama administration has sent an additional 21,000 troops to Afghanistan and has given General McChrsytal unprecedented powers in carrying out the brutal U.S. occupation. Two days ago, 4,000 U.S. marines launched a massive offensive. The U.S. is stepping up the occupation as it tries to “win” a war that has cost countless lives and wreaked destruction in Afghanistan. At the same time, the corporate media and U.S. ruling class are celebrating a so-called withdrawal in Iraq. The withdrawal is nothing more than a farce, as Iraq remains fully occupied by the U.S. military.
Plus an update on the unfolding struggle in Honduras against the U.S.-backed military coup
