Charges against four of the defendants were dropped and Jalil Muntaqim pled no contest to conspiracy to commit voluntary manslaughter. He received credit for time served (close to 2 1/2 years in County Jail) and 3 years probation. He will return to New York to fight for parole. Those for whom charges were dismissed today are Ray Boudreaux, Richard Brown, Hank Jones, and Harold Taylor.
The courtroom at 850 Bryant Street was packed with SF 8 supporters after a rally of hundreds and a huge Free SF 8 banner was displayed on the hillside of Bernal Heights to be seen from all over the city.
"This is finally the disposition of a case that should never have been brought in the first place," announced attorney Soffiyah Elijah.
Francisco Torres still faces a court hearing on August 10th.
A more in-depth post will follow.

that the prosecutors suffer nothing for all of the useless harm they have caused is itself a travesty
after all, how much taxpayer money was spent pursuing this case? how many hours have the defendants and their lawyers spent preparing defenses? it should all be reimbursed

The proud Democrat and member of the ruling capitalist class, Attorney General Jerry Brown, is now running for governor for the second time (having been governor 1975-1983) and thus cannot afford this frame-up. The AG office is a "law and order" racist, anti-workingclass position, commonly known as "sending poor people to jail," the same as all district attorneys. The charges against the remaining defendant Francisco Torres need to be dropped immediately. This 71-year-old fossil needs to be sent to immediate retirement. We can be sure the Green Party and Peace & Freedom Party will have candidates for Attorney General, the only candidates worth considering.
